Mike Basich has always been on his own program--from the early days of backcountry freestyle to living out of his van in AK and his current pursuits with Area 241 (see frequency TSJ Issue 7.1), he continues to quietly pursue a life in snowboarding that few can match. And he recently released a film called "Open Space: The Untold Stories of Mike Basich", to 40 or so stoked individuals at his 241 cabin. Check it out on Mike’s site--it's definitely worth watching the story of one of snowboarding's pioneers.

Whistler-Blackcomb Delivers on Thanksgiving Weekend
Whistler, BC (November 30, 2009) – Sometimes it’s better to earn your turns.
With Whistler-Blackcomb reporting record snowfall for the month of November—already 217 inches, which is half of their yearly average—I made for the great white north this thanksgiving weekend in anticipation of Blackcomb’s opener on Thursday, followed by the Whistler alpine on Saturday.
Two Weeks Deep into a Pacific Northwest Winter
Within the last two weeks, the Cascades received more than 8 feet of snow, creating a snowpack that more resembled mid-winter than pre-December conditions. With the Crystal Mountain opening, on November 11, I really felt like the new season had officially been ushered in. I'm getting really amped up for the upcoming season, one during which I hope to really push the limits of what has and can be done with a snowboard.
