September 29th was an evening of photography, fun, love, and dedication in Bozeman, MT. The “Perfect Moments Of Shred” photo show officially opened at 6 pm in the Vast Collective gallery located at the Bomb Snow magazine offices. This photo show was a collection of images from some of the top shooters in the snowboard world. All dedicated to the memory of one outstanding individual, Aaron Robinson. The proceeds from print sales in the show will be channeled to the A-ROB Plant A Seed Foundation an upstart non-profit. The PAS foundation will begin serving the financially disadvantaged youth in the Flathead Valley of MT. The Robinson family is working in conjunction with Volcom, K2 and other generous contributors to provide these youth with something positive and uplifting in their lives, snowboarding. “We will work to get kids that haven’t had the opportunity to go snowboarding to experience first hand all the smiles and joy it can bring,” says Jason Robinson about the plan for the foundation.

The list of photographers at this show was heavy to say the least. Andy Wright, Chris Owen, Chris Wellhausen, Colin Wiseman, Frode Sandbech, Jeff Curtes, Jenna Low, Liam Gallagher, Matt Georges, Mike Yoshida, Reid Morth, Scott Serfas, Scott Sullivan, Tim Zimmerman. From some of the most respected and accomplished veterans to the young creative eyes on the way up. Each artist had two to three prints on the wall ranging from heart stopping action to warm fuzzy I-wanna-shred feeling lifestyle and detail images. The Vast Gallery saw visits from over three hundred people over the course of the evening and the general consensus was WOW, this is an amazing show!

The full collection of prints from the show is available to view and for individual purchase at http://perfectmoments.bigcartel.com/ . Check out http://bombsnow.com/ for more photos and follow up information from the night.

Thanks to the contributing photographers and the sponsors Volcom, K2, World Boards, YES, Bomb Snow, Airblaster, Mystery Ranch, Spark R&D and Jeff Hawe Photo. Also a big thanks to Travis Andersen and his printing skills.

In my head I have a list of favorites for many different things in life. Movies, people, activities, etc. The list of favorite spots to ride is one of my favorites when it comes to lists. As the years pass and experience is gained in some of the worlds best shred locations my list becomes more refined. Without hesitation I always jump at the chance to add a new location and further refine that list. Revelstoke Mountain Resort has been on the radar since it’s opening a few years back and this January it was officially added to my favorites list. Now in order to make that list; first and foremost terrain has to be world class, and snow has to be good. Check and check for RMR. Ease of getting around the mountain, laid back friendly staff, and small crowds all notch a resort up that list. Then throw as appealing town, a superb geographical location, and a little stunning scenery in the mix and well you have secured a spot on my favorites list.

Revelstoke, or Revy as some call it underwent a major overhaul in 2007 transforming it from a small local hill to the heavy freeride mountain it now is. There are three lifts that simply serve two aspects of Mount Mackenzie and a total vertical fall of 5600 feet. The 3121 acres here are packed with glades, pillows, chutes, cliffs, and open bowls. The lifts are fast which equates to plenty of time on hill. Amenities are more than sufficient without a lot of frill, which keeps this a mountain full of people here dedicated to ride! I won’t talk it up anymore, just get up there and see how it ranks on your list…

Top unload of the Stoke Chair, this place is epic all around.

Nicolas Müller is backing RMR.

Another newbie on my favorites is the Modern bakery and coffee. Good food, great atmosphere, hit it up you will like it too.

The Grand Prix stop in Park City was the final contest in deciding the 2010 Olympic team. The level of riding was really up there with double corks and airs pushing 20 feet. The weather was challenging at times, but the Park City crew kept things running smoothly. When the snow settled and numbers were counted the top three men were Shaun White, Scotty Lago, and Luke Mitrani with Kelly Clark, Hannah Teter, and Kaitlyn Farrington taking the women’s top three. The riding going on in men’s professional pipe these days is mind boggling, having never seen Shaun White ride prior to this I find myself starting to understand what the hype is all about. The kid stands out in a crowd of amazing riders. Shaun is not the only exceptional rider though; the power riding coming from Scotty Lago, the amplitude from Greg Bretz, and the smooth style from Elijah Teter are all ingredients fueling the fire.

This year we will see Shaun White, Scotty Lago, Louie Vito, Greg Bretz, Kelly Clark, Gretchen Bleiler, Elena Hight, and Hannah Teter competing for half pipe gold in Whistler. All mixed opinions about snowboarding and the Olympics aside, the riding will be worth watching. If the opportunity presents itself, take some of it in person because it is amazing. Coming from someone who spends a majority of their shred time far away from any crowds, or major events the half pipe contest frenzy is a side of snowboarding that should make any dedicated shred proud to hold a board and ready to cheer on their fellow boarders. Oh, and it is really nice when they hold these contests at night so we can ride powder all day then go check them out when the sun sets. With something like 50 inches of fresh snow all week leading up to the event, there was plenty of soft landings for anyone!

As each day passes, I get closer to being completely submersed in my winter wonderland fantasy. The long hours photographing scared and violently shaking teacup Chihuahuas, and elderly women’s dogs with wretched enough gas to make my eyes water are starting to seem less painful. I sit and dream of the complete freedom a vast expanse of fresh snow and clean mountain air will deliver as I try not to lose sanity at my current position of Dog Photographer at Petcos along the California coast on weekends. While chasing runaway Shih Tzu’s through the aisles and wrestling drooling, bleeding eighty pound Labradors onto my backdrop. It is a necessary reality to see how rough it could be, which reminds me how lucky I am to be a snowboarder. And selling photos to women well-doused in patchouli while their 10-pound French bulldog star-kisses my pant leg is a quick reminder. But on the plus side, the job has given me opportunity to spend time with my lovely lady friend who is studying in Cali, while saving up some money to allow me another winter of freedom.

With my truck kitted for long nights and long drives, and no fixed address I am starting to wonder if maybe Gypsies know something the rest of the home body world is missing out on. So soon I will venture out into this winter-vagabond lifestyle to see just how far I can stretch a few dollars to turn them into face shots, priceless times with friends, and unknown adventure. To say I am frothing is a wee bit of an understatement. Given the very good early season snowfalls I have been hearing all about, and currently being trapped in a big box. I may just blow a little early and lose it on the hike during my first day out. Hopefully not though, ha-ha.

So what's the point of all of this? Let's just say I really cannot wait to see you all out on the slopes. Until then, if you are lucky enough, go board!

After 27 hours of travel and one day of waiting in Santiago Chile for the storm we had flown into to finish its fury I had shifted from toasting my freshly buzzed head in the hot summer sun to freezing the tip of my nose while riding a meter of pow. There is something so very refreshing about face shots in August, causing me to feel very lucky that I had found what I came for on only the second day of the trip. After one bluebird day another storm set in on the mountains around Santiago and kept up for two more days. Between the two storms there was over two meters of fresh snow in a week. When the weather cleared for two more days it allowed for some riding worth writing home about. I met up with friends Lucas Debari, Matt Edgars, Blair Habenicht, and Forrest Burki. This crew did not hesitate to take advantage of the conditions and ride some great lines. With shop set up in Farellones Chile access to the goods is just a short walk and a couple of tbar lifts away. The boys had been here for about three weeks already, so they had the good spots pretty well figured out. So hear I sit one week into a month long trip already feeling that the ticket was well worth the price. Time will only tell what more is to come…

The Beartooth Pass (featured in frequency # 7.2) opened up over Memorial Day weekend. The pass opens every spring around this time providing easy access to the high alpine snowfields still lingering. Highway 212 winds it way up out of Red Lodge, Montana to the top of the pass in Wyoming, then back down into Montana ending up in Cooke City. Giving a late spring early summer shred spot to the regions devoted. It is somewhat of a ritual for many of us here in Southwest Montana to make weekend trips down to the pass to spend sunny days hiking slushy jumps and cool nights camping in the wilderness of the Beartooth Mountains. This year the Red Lodge Ski and Snowboard Camp will be operating again providing a park and two lifts for long summer shred days till the snow is gone. Cheers to the start of one of my favorite summer past times, and feel free to come on out and join us we’ll be there.

The last weekend at any resort is always a fun time especially if it’s your local spot. This year's last weekend at Big Sky was no exception. From watching skiers get slammed in the pond skim, to girls sporting beach wear on boards, to friends doing both dumb but hilarious acts and killing it riding a slushy park. These things stoke me out most about the springtime ritual. Really I think what makes it so fun is that after a winter of busy and not always coinciding schedules, friends all show up to put everything else away for a few days and just have fun being snowboarders. So here are a few images of my last weekend.
