After 30 years on the east coast, Burton has announced that the U.S. Open will be moving west to be held at Vail Mountain in 2013.

Since 1982, the U.S. Open has remained in the east, moving from the original location of Suicide Six to Snow Valley and finally to Stratton Mountain in Vermont, where it stayed for 27 years. The move west has been well recieved by Burton athletes and the snowboarding community in general, a handful of whom gathered at Vail recently to check out the new venue and begin plans for the new location of a 22-foot halfpipe on Golden Peak.

"The US Open is one of my favorite events by far, and I couldn’t be more excited about its next evolution,” Burton rider Kelly Clark, a five-time U.S. Open Champion and one of many riders who were at Vail last week to help with the planning, said. “Burton has always been about progressing the sport and doing what’s best for snowboarders, and I truly believe that this move to Vail will make the Open even better for the riders and the thousands of fans who come out to watch.”
