25th Annual Legendary Banked Slalom -- Day 2

Mt Baker, WA (February, 6, 2010) -- Day 2 of the LBS dawned sunny and warm--the right kind of weather to shake off a hangover, which, it was rumored, was the case for most of the contingent making their way up from glacier for a 10am start (and some who didnt quite make it). This made for a slightly slower course despite the good visibility, as another 25 percent vied for a spot in Sunday's final.

Sunny skies also meant the train out Shuksan Arm appeared early and lasted all day as the sidecountry stabilized and north facing slopes held deep powder, despite the softening crust on-hill.

Local's topped the time sheet again, with Temple Cummins, Blair Habenicht and Sky Risvold going 2, 3, and 4 behind Josh Dirksen (woman's results still weren't posted as of 10pm)--the cave turned into a sun pit--texas tucking weekend warriors hurtled out of control and ragdolled down groomers--and DCP managed to squeeze in three laps on the arm around his qualifying run.

Indeed, today was the kind of day that was about a lot more than riding the natural halfpipe--everywhere you looked people were tearing around the mountain, hiking a ridge, and reveling in a classic Baker day. And when they lit the bonfire and served the salmon, the strong police presence had little effect on the boisterous crowd (just a reminder, though, to have your designated driver keep it under the speed limit, and make sure your license plate lights are working, or they will let you know about it).

Thanks to Britt, Laura, Nicole, and the rest of the crew who get everyone down the course by 2:30 and into party mode early. See you on course tomorrow.

re: the cops, also witnessed was people being pulled over for not using their turn signal at the exit of White Salmon driveway. Like shooting fish in a barrel to them I guess, what a way to make a living. Good times in spite of them, Yah!!
